We have the Heritage Poultry Conservation Society that works on keeping threatened Chicken breeds & Turkeys alive & going. We lost 1 big farm a few months ago to fire.
I grew up with real food, fruits, vegetables, beef, pork, goats, chicken etc. from A-Z all done at home with my parents. Preserving it for winter too, and can't believe what we are eating nowadays.
Thanks for the detailed coverage of an almost lost knowledge. Makes me want to go out and get some Heritage chickens. Unfortunately, I'd have to buy some land first, my yard is so small and the council has so many restrictions on have chickens or rabbits in a small area. Buying that land would be well worth it though. Need to get rid of a few rental properties that are not performing at desired level.
love o idea who she belongs to but she is beautiful
hickenx. i live in a small yown and no chickenx allowed. but i went outside about a week ago and there was a bardrock hen. i got her to come over to me and now she visits almost everyday. i have no idea who she belongs to.she is so beautiful and very friendly
This breed from Germany is making a huge splash in the poultry world. These gentle giants are extremely docile, beautiful and easy to raise — the hardest thing about raising Bielefelders is being able to pronounce their name. These robust birds have large, round bodies that put Orpingtons to shame. Males have barred feathers and are easily 10 pounds, and hens aren't much smaller. These are great birds for both meat and eggs.
I started raising. Chickens, ducks and geese this year. Mine are about 8 weeks old and growing well. I expect them to start producing eggs at 16 to 21 weeks old. Chickens only produce eggs for 3 to 4 years.

I wish I could post a picture here.
